The Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with Actuarial Science prepares you to enter the actuarial field while giving you a broad introduction to the study of mathematics. In addition to being prepared for graduate study in mathematics or statistics, when you successfully complete the program, you'll be prepared for the first two actuarial exams and will have even satisfied the VEE requirements.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with Actuarial Science prepares students to for the first two actuarial exams while also preparing them to enter a professional working environment. In addition to passing the actuarial exams, the Society of Actuaries also requires of actuaries the completion of approved coursework in three areas:
- Economics
- Corporate finance
- Applied statistical methods
These requirements are satisfied through the coursework in this major. The specific courses that satisfy these requirements are listed on the Society of Actuaries website.
In addition to fulfilling the requirements of the Interdepartmental Major, as well as the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences general education requirements, you'll be required to complete the College's First Year Experience Program or Transfer Student Program.
Mathematics as a double major is available to any AU student with the exception of those already pursuing a BS in Mathematics (with or without Actuarial Science) or a BA in Mathematics as their primary major. For all others, the courses listed below are required for the Mathematics double major.

The minor in mathematics requires 22 credit hours of mathematics courses numbered 151 and above. It must include MATH 151, 152, and 253. At most two credits of independent study may be applied toward the mathematics minor. Courses should be selected in consultation with the mathematics minor advisor.
Graduates with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics qualify for a wide range of positions in business, industry, government and education. Companies in the computer and communications industries employ many mathematicians as do all kinds of companies, banks, insurance companies and consulting firms. Many bureaus and branches of the federal government employ mathematicians, including the Department of Health and Human Services, the General Accounting Office, Department of Energy, Department of Defense, the National Aeronautics Space Administration and the National Security Agency.
